BSN Round 11 (Regular Season): Mayaguez defeat San German in the closest game of the week

The most exciting game of round 11 in the BSN took place in San German. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 6th ranked Atleticos (2-7) to second ranked Indios (5-3) 80-77 on Wednesday evening. It was a great evening for American power forward Nick Perkins (203-1996, college: Buffalo) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. His fellow American import Milton Doyle (193-1993, college: Loyola, IL) helped adding 8 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. International point guard Tjader Fernandez (178-1994) responded with 22 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Mayaguez maintains second place with 5-3 record behind leader Caguas. San German lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with seven games lost.
Important game to mention about took place in Quebradillas. Fifth ranked Aguada (4-6) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 3rd placed Piratas (4-7) 88-86 in the game for the third place. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Cameron McGriff (201-1997, college: OK State) who led the winners and scored 21 points. Alexander Abreu accounted for 10 points and 12 assists. DR Congolese point guard Emmanuel Mudiay (196-1996) came up with 18 points and 5 assists for Quebradillas in the defeat. Piratas' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Aguada moved-up to third place. Quebradillas lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth position with seven games lost.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Arecibo. First ranked host Capitanes (6-1) defeated 3rd placed Vaqueros (4-4) 102-97. The best player for the winners was David Stockton who scored 20 points and 9 assists. Capitanes' coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. QJ Peterson produced 36 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the guests. Capitanes have a solid series of three victories in a row. Arecibo maintains first place with 6-1 record, which they share with Guaynabo. Bayamon at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost.

In the last two games of round 11 Ponce won against Santurce on the opponent's court 84-79. Carolina unfortunately lost to Manati in a home game 105-111.



Santurce - Ponce 79-84

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Santurce where 4th placed Cangrejeros (3-4) were defeated by fifth ranked Leones (3-3) 84-79 on Tuesday. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-1991, agency: Interperformances) who scored 22 points and 8 assists. Naturalized Nicaraguan Jared Ruiz (188-1992) chipped in 21 points. Four Leones players scored in double figures. Dominican forward Miguel Simon (203-1994, college: ASA CC, agency: BMS Sport Agency) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds and the former international forward Angel Matias (194-1992, college: Georgia South) added 16 points respectively for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Leones have a solid series of three victories in a row. Ponce maintains fifth place with 3-3 record. Santurce at the other side keeps the fourth position with four games lost.

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Carolina where sixth ranked Osos (3-6) defeated 5th ranked Gigantes (2-6) 111-105 on Tuesday. Manati made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was point guard Norris Cole (188-1988, college: CSU) who had a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 10 assists. Guard Alex Morales (198-1997, college: Wagner) chipped in a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Brandon Goodwin (188-1995, college: FGCU) produced 28 points and 8 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and forward Scottie James Jr (202-1996, college: Liberty, agency: Pensack Sports) added 27 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Manati moved-up to fifth place. Carolina lost third consecutive game. Defending champion dropped to the sixth position with six games lost.

American point guard QJ Peterson (183-1994, college: VMI) produced 36 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and South Sudanese center Wenyen Gabriel (208-1997, college: Kentucky) added 18 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for the guests. Five Arecibo and four Bayamon players scored in double figures. Capitanes have a solid series of three victories in a row. Important game to mention about took place in Quebradillas. Fifth ranked Aguada (4-6) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 3rd placed Piratas (4-7) 88-86 in the game for the third place. Aguada dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Piratas' 28. Aguada players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Cameron McGriff (201-1997, college: OK State) who led the winners and scored 21 points. The former international point guard Alexander Abreu (179-1991, college: UWG) accounted for 10 points and 12 assists for the winning side. DR Congolese point guard Emmanuel Mudiay (196-1996) came up with 18 points and 5 assists and the former international Tyquan Rolon (192-1995, college: LeMoyne) added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Quebradillas in the defeat. Four Aguada and five Quebradillas players scored in double figures. Piratas' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Aguada moved-up to third place.
